Groups Laud Tinubu For Including Six Women In Ministerial Nominee List

Two Nigerian groups known as  Women Support Women (WOSUWO) and Heroine Women Foundation (HEWOF) have praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for including two women in the recently published ministerial nominee list. 

Recall that in the nominee list sent to the senate, six women made the list.

The groups  described the inclusion as unprecedented and in line with Tinubu’s campaign promises to carry women along. The Executive Director of the organisations, Ambassador Onyinye Mamah, who gave the commendation in a statement yesterday, in Enugu, said women have not had it so good since the return of democracy in 1999.

 The six women in the list are Nkiruka Onyejiocha (Abia), Beta Edu (Cross River), Hannatu Musawa (Katsina), Doris Uzoka (Imo), Uju Kennedy Ohanenye (Anambra) and Stella Okotete (Delta).

According to Mamah, the inclusion of six women is an indication that the present government is practising gender balancing.

She added that the ministerial nominees are eminently qualified for the task, she asked Tinubu to make them senior ministers, not ministers of state, as witnessed in pervious administrations.

She appealed to the president to fulfill his promise of including more women in the next ministerial list and other appointments.

Mamah then appealed to all the female nominees to justify their appointments by being dedicated and committed to their responsibilities, saying  that doing well in their ministries  would open more doors for women appointments into political positions.
