A 18-year-old teenager simply identified as Saudat Jibril has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command after killing her husband, 30-year-old Salisu Idris, barely nine days after their wedding in the Farawa community of the state.
The State Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa in a statement on Tuesday disclosed that teenager is currently in custody at the command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
It was gathered that the wedding ceremony of Jibril and Idris, took place on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
According to earlier reports, the marriage in question was arranged by the couple’s relatives and that there was a lack of mutual affection between couple.
The deceased, Idris, reportedly had reservations about the union but was convinced by family members to go through with the marriage.
While the details surrounding the dispute that led to his death remain unclear, community members allege that Saudat may have poisoned her husband before stabbing him during an argument.
In addressing the alleged homicide, Kiyawa stated that Jibril “allegedly cut her husband’s throat with a sharp knife.”
He said. “The victim was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
“The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section and will be charged to court for the offence of culpable homicide,”Kiyawa said.
He further warned that the Command will not tolerate any form of violence or criminality in the state while assuring the public of its commitment to conducting thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.
Meanwhile, the command has arrested a notorious suspect, Ali Dahiru, a 40-year-old male from Jaji, Kaduna State.
The suspect, who posed as a taxi driver, was apprehended for allegedly operating a robbery syndicate along the Kura-Kano route.
Kiyawa said the investigation revealed that Dahiru uses his green Golf 3 vehicle to rob passengers, using mechanical faults or fuel shortages as excuses to distract them.
According to the police, 50 complainants have come forward and identified the suspect as responsible for their losses.
“Acting on intelligence, Dahiru was apprehended and several stolen properties were recovered” the police said adding that “The suspect will face charges in court upon completion of the investigation”.
