' Prioritizes education and discipline amongst members'

'Vows to ensure one of his children becomes a seasoned journalist'

National President of Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, MOUN cum Ogun State Chairman, Riders Owners of Motorcycles Organisation, ROMO, Alhaji Olusola Sotayo has revealed that that the leadership of the bodies does not treat discipline and education among members with levity.

This was made known on Wednesday, 9th July 2025, when the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Independent Online Chapel, Ota paid him a courtesy visit at his Iju, Ota residence.

Sholebo, as he is widely known and addressed by friends and well-wishers, stated that contrary to general belief that commercial motorcycle operators were ‘Social Miscreants’ and Illiterates' the trend has totally changed as many of his subordinates and colleagues are now more enlightened, educated and well behaved group of individuals.

According to Borokini of Aworiland, this transformation was initiated by his leadership by persuading and encouraging its members to go back to school and acquire knowledge and formal education on part time basis, for them to be empowered, lead meaningful lifestyles and have positive impact on the lives of vulnerable members of the society. This would also enable them to fight for their rights legally and in a proper manner whenever it's being trampled on.

The Borikini of Egbaland further stated that  their members had been maltreated by overzealous security men on many ocassions as a result of ignorance. But the reverse is the  case now that they (members of the Union) are now well educated and  conscious of their rights, as they now acquired formal education and more knowledge on the job. Discipline is also instilled on the Union members, as sales and taking of alcohol is not permitted at their designated parks and garages.

He said, "Some of our members are now councillors in some states, while others are also doing very well at the National Assembly.”

The  MOUN President appreciated the journalists, commending them for being the "Voice of the oppressed and less privileged members of the society.”

He emphasized the importance of journalists and their contributions to the Socio-Economic and Political development of the country. He also revealed how journalists had brought many famous and influential people we look up to in the society today, from obscurity to limelight. Hence, the real reason why he (Sholebo) made a secret vow to ensure that one of his children becomes a seasoned journalist.

Sholebo concluded by expressing his profound gratitude to Ogun State Government and the Federal Government for their invaluable support plus assistance to the bodies, stating that they had been given electric motorcycles at subsidized rate which had greatly helped in empowering their members and drastically reduced unemployment and crime rate.

He, however added that they still need more of Govts' kind gestures.
