2027: Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo Set To Jostle For Ado-Odo/Ota House Of Reps Seat

Engr. Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo has declared her intention to represent the people of Ado Odo/Ota Federal Constituency on the  platform of (PDP) Peoples Democratic Party in 2027.

She made her intention known in an interactive session with members of Ota Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Independent Online in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Engr. Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo said that the Ado Odo/Ota has not received quality representation since 1999 when this democratic experience started, and she felt the deep sense of responsibility to correct this anormaly.

She noted that the political office holders failed to recognise and tap into the unique economic and agricultural opportunities available in the Constituency.

She further stated that Ota is an urban area under siege, because it lacks motorable roads and infrastructures needed to function optimally for it's potentials to be realised.

She explained that it took several peaceful protests to draw the attention of the former Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola to the deplorable conditions of Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road and Sango-Ota -Idiroko Expressway.

Again, she said Ado Odo area is the green belt with rich agricultural land of about 8,000 hectares left lying fallow and had failed to benefit from any of the Federal Government’s agricultural policies

She added that there is a technical college in Igbesa, which has been neglected and there is the need to rescusitate skill development in order to provide readily trained skill to the industries available in Ado Odo/Ota Federal Constituency.

“I have been moved to contest because I need to make contribution to this Ado Odo/Ota in my lifetime, I mean at the Federal House of Representatives,” she said.

“What I have seen since 1999 in terms of representation leaves much to be desired. I will say we have not had good representation. Things that we really need are not in place.

“Ado-Odo/Ota is a diverse constituency with unique challenges in each area. However, our representatives have continued to apply a one-size-fits-all approach, resulting in neglect and underdevelopment across the board.

“The state of our road network is deplorable, making the entire constituency appear as though it’s under siege.”

This is not her first shot at politics, she vied under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2023 for the same elective position but she didn’t get the ticket.

Engr. Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo said there are lessons she has learnt from that experience.

“Then I concentrated on promoting the party instead of promoting my candidacy,” she said.

“Now I believe I have all it takes to clinch the position and give my people good representation that had eluded them. Success is not gender based, it is earned.”

Engr Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo has had stints in oil and gas industry and cyber security sphere.

With a formidable résumé that spans over two decades across multinational corporations and strategic UK government departments, Okuboyejo brings a refreshing blend of private sector precision and public policy intelligence to the political space. Her journey from the oilfields of the North Sea to the corridors of Whitehall, and now to community-building in her ancestral Ado-Odo/Ota homeland, tells the story of a woman driven not just by ambition—but by purpose.

A petroleum engineer by profession, she transitioned seamlessly from technical roles in oil and gas with ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Centrica, into policy-making at the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and later, as Chief of Staff at the Defence Infrastructure Organisation under the UK Ministry of Defence. She is currently a Cyber Risk Consultant at the UK’s National Energy System Operator.

Her contributions to national energy security, information risk governance, and cybersecurity have earned her a respected place among professionals working to protect the UK’s critical infrastructure. And yet, she remains firmly connected to her roots.

Born to Nigerian parents studying in the UK in the 1970s, Okuboyejo’s heritage has been a constant compass. Her NGO, the Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo Renaissance Project (TAORP), reflects her commitment to education, human capital development, and local empowerment in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State.

Engineer Temitayo took her passion for service a step further by contesting for same political office in the last general election, though unsuccessful, the experience only reinforced her resolve.

Her political philosophy is rooted in the belief that diaspora Nigerians—particularly those with technical, policy, and leadership experience—must play an active role in reshaping the country.

In the highly competitive and male-dominated field of engineering and cybersecurity, Okuboyejo remains undaunted. She credits her upbringing for instilling in her the belief that gender should never be a barrier.

Her wide range of professional certifications—including CISM, GICSP, and ISO 27001 Lead Auditor—underscores her technical credibility.

With three academic degrees—including an Executive Master’s in Public Administration from the London School of Economics and Political Science—she is uniquely equipped to bridge policy ideals with on-the-ground realities.

NaijaBabe, as she is fondly called by friends and admirers has become something of an icon in the diaspora community—celebrated not just for her trailblazing career, but for her authenticity and community spirit.

She offers this piece of advice to young Nigeria women, “Don’t ignore the power of networks. Seek mentors. And remember—success isn’t gendered. It’s earned.”

As Nigeria looks toward the next generation of leaders, voices like Engr. Temitayo Agemo-Okuboyejo offer a compelling case for a new kind of politics: one grounded in merit, community, and an unshakeable belief that change is not only possible, but long overdue.
